I’m Makin’ Games Over Here! Forging a Career in Games in NYC
New York City is a metropolis unlike any other and the NYC game development industry is no different. 30+ studios within a few miles of each other but only a handful of traditional AAA developers. Dozens of major brands and agencies but only a pair of traditional games publishers. A rich history of hit games, massive franchises, and scrappy success stories but little awareness as the 4th largest North American Game Development hub. A panel of NYC games industry stalwarts (Bill Podurgiel – Avalanche Studios, Nick Fortugno – Playmatics, Coray Seifert – Experiment 7) comprising 40 years of NYC game development experience details the specific challenges and opportunities of working on games in The City.
Coray Seifert is the Director of Production for Experiment 7, a VR strategy game developer and publisher. For more than 15 years, Coray has developed games as a producer, game designer, and writer for organizations like THQ's Kaos Studios, Autodesk, and the US Department of Defense. He has shipped over 20 titles for PC, console, and mobile, including the IGF award-winning indie hit Rocketbowl, AAA titles Frontlines: Fuel of War and Homefront, and Zynga Slingo, a #1 game on Facebook. A Lifetime Member of the International Game Developers Association, Coray was elected to the IGDA’s Board of directors in 2007 at the age of 27; the youngest board member in IGDA history.
